| Downhill Only Tours

For
those who like the idea of exploring on a bike, but are concerned
about their fitness level, or think it might be too hot for
any
kind of physical exercise, then how about a "downhill only"
day out. We will transport you and the bikes to the highest point
in the Algarve, Foia at 907 metres (OK so it's not the Alps),
and
from there you can take one of several routes back down to the
coastal plain. In all about 30 Kms of down hill or on the level
cycling.
From Foia it's about 8 Km of free wheeling to Monchique. On the
way to Monchique are a number of strategically placed restaurants
and bars that have some truly spectacular views of the Algarve.
On
clear days the views extend west to Sagres and Cap St. Vincent,
and east almost to Faro. About 100 kms of coast line in all. Why
not try Rampa for great chicken piri piri, or you fancy some traditional
Algarve country cooking, take the small diversion to O Jardim
D'Oliveras,
a favourite place for locals to go for Sunday lunch and well worth
a visit on a nice day, at any time of the year. Traditional country
dishes include: wild boar stew, roast kid in plums, rabbit casserole,
lots of different chorizo sausages, and much more.

Probably
not one for the vegetarians. After Lunch, down hill to Monchique
with it's monastery, church, crafts shops and more. From there are
several different routes to take, depending one the desire or lack
of it for any pedalling. The easy route is continue down hill towards
Caldas de Monchique, a stunning hamlet, grown up around the spring.
Some well restored old restored old buildings around a pretty square
of granite calcada, with a restaurant, wine bar, craft shop and
visitor centre. Also at Caldas is a Health Spa and hotel.
